• The jury honours the combination of timeless design and effective contribution to a transformation towards more sustainability
• GROHE Blue helps to reduce plastic waste and CO2 emissions

Johannesburg, 22nd October 2020 – GROHE Blue is in the final round of the award for sustainable design. In addition to usual tap water, the innovative water system enables consumers to draw filtered and chilled still, medium or sparkling water straight from the kitchen faucet – completely hygienic with two separate internal water ways. This eliminates the need for users to buy heavy water bottles and the bottles thus saved contribute significantly to a reduction of plastic and CO2. In its statement, the renowned jury of the German Sustainability Award particularly honoured precisely this combination of practical and sustainable functions for homes and offices: Due to its high level of convenience, GROHE Blue has the potential to “promote a change of mind-set in society and thus a paradigm shift.” As the jury concluded, the timelessly elegant and minimalist design makes the water system a long-lasting companion for the kitchen.

“With GROHE Blue we show that sophisticated design, convenience and sustainability can go hand in hand,” says Thomas Fuhr, COO Fittings LIXIL International and Co-CEO Grohe AG. “The nomination is further proof for us that we are on the right track with our product development: Our resource-saving solutions are not only produced sustainably, but should also support users in making an effective contribution to a transformation themselves.”

As part of the 13th German Sustainability Award, the German Sustainability Award Foundation is bestowing the prize for sustainable design for the first time. In addition, the GROHE brand is also a finalist in the transformation category “Resources.” With two nominations, GROHE already belongs to the top group of this year's German Sustainability Award. Whether GROHE is among the winners will be announced at the award ceremony on December 3, 2020 (Design) and December 4, 2020 (Resources).

“We are passionate about quality, technology, design and sustainability, and our intelligent solutions are a testament of this. As we continue to enhance water enjoyment and push the boundaries of innovation, we are thrilled to be recognised as one of the finalists of the German Sustainability Award Design 2021”, said Corrie Stride, Leader: Marketing at LIXIL Africa.
