An iconic South African landmark, the Cape Town Stadium, known as the DHL Stadium to most, is the place where memories are made.
LIXIL Africa is proud to have played a role in the revamp of this iconic structure by supplying durable, functional and timeliness products that met international standards.
Commencing in January 2020, and completing mid 2021, the developers and LIXIL Africa set out complete the vision of designing new suites and seating areas to enhance the facilities and user-experience within the Cape Town Stadium.
A project that would see many challenges with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and multiple, long-standing lockdowns. “It was both challenging and satisfying embarking on such a large-scale project during the COVID pandemic, but thankfully a mixture of a fantastic client, consultant and construction team made for a pleasant working experience”, says Jacqueline Stow.
LIXIL Africa products including Grohe Sanitary, and concealed cisterns were used in the suite bathrooms due to the fact that they were durable and exuded timeless elegance.
A well-trafficked and often frequented space such as the Cape Town Stadium required products that would be able to withstand a good deal of human interaction, offering functional precision and an enduring lifespan. This is the main reason why LIXIL Africa products were selected, as they meet international quality criteria and functional precision with advanced technologies.
Sustainability was key in this project. A public space with large amounts of visitors frequenting, in a province that is known for low water resources and previous devastating droughts, required sustainable solutions. However, working in the confines of a pre-existing stadium meant that options for sustainable solutions were more limited than would have been ideal.
“Seeing the design taking shape within the structure of the stadium was a highlight of my experience with this project”, says Jacqueline Stow, “and working with LIXIL Africa was a great experience.
