LIXIL Africa Development Programme

LIXIL Africa Development Programme

Last year October, the LIXIL Africa team was approached by Giovanni Cantamessa, Category Specialist at Builders to collaborate on an exciting development programme alongside Nedbank.

The development programme was designed to focus on water and energy conservation within the plumbing industry and the current challenges faced in the South African landscape by plumbers and other specialists in the industry.

As this development project aligned with LIXIL Africa’s key strategic CSI pillars, i.e. skills upliftment and industry education, environmental awareness, and inclusion, our teams were more than thrilled to join forces on this project.

8 Candidates were carefully selected from AITF College in Bredell, Kempton Park for the development programme with the aim to upskill, educate and provide key tools to these up-and-coming plumbers with regards to the importance of, and various water saving techniques in the South African landscape.

The training course took place on 10 February 2023 and included 2 in-person presentations along with a practical with the candidates. LIXIL Africa was responsible for the learning content, assessment criteria as well as the completion certificates for each candidate. Key partners for this training programme were energy saving products, LIXIL Africa for water conservation, Nedbank, You Are Worth It and Builders Warehouse.

The specific outcomes of the course that were covered were the following:

  • What role do plumbers play in water conservation
  • Understanding how water saving plumbing products work
  • A practical step-by-step installation of various water saving kits

The candidates were taught how water saving plumbing products function and how to successfully install them in various circumstances, leaving them competent to carry out water saving upgrades to existing plumbing systems and a broad understanding of various water saving products.

Water conservation is one of the most important roles of plumbers, across the globe and not just in South Africa. Water is one of our most precious resources, and sharing the skills and knowledge of how to ensure that water is used efficiently is something that LIXIL Africa takes very seriously.

In addition to the wealth of knowledge shared with these future plumbing specialists, LIXIL Africa provided each candidate with a toolbox containing the below tools, of which we owe thanks to Builders Warehouse for the discounts on these items, in order to make this possible.
